“With passion we do what we like: to offer our guests a comfortable temporary home. We are happy to live here where you spend your holidays. We appreciate the real thing and enjoy merging the products of the region and our partners into a harmonious whole and presenting them to our guests as a great offer. We appreciate the honesty of the mountains, enjoy the moods of nature and, of course, enjoy the moments away from home. For example, when we can enjoy our region with hiking boots, on skis or on a sunny terrace.”

House
The Naturefriends House Grindelwald was built in 1947 by the club Naturfreunde Schweiz, Section Berne. The chalet served as a tourist hostel for members and guests and has been operated as such ever since. After several stages of renovation between 1972 and 2009, the chalet reached the middle of its life expectancy in 2017, after which it underwent a complete structural and energetic renovation. After almost six months of construction (L2A Architekten AG, Unterseen), the chalet was reopened on 10 February 2018. As part of the refurbishment, the chalet was also adapted to the tourist market – for example in the form of smaller room units that can be combined with connecting doors or a new, friendly reception zone with lounge. The light white fir panelling and the carefully selected furnishings underline the authentic alpine character of a chalet that price-conscious and modern leisure travellers from all over the world would like to see in Grindelwald. The hostel has been awarded the Swiss Tourism Quality Seal (Level I) and is classified as a Swiss Lodge by hotelleriesuisse.
The Naturefriends Hostel Grindelwald belongs to the Naturfreundehaeuser AG, which also operates the two Naturefriends hostels Gornern in the Kiental and St. Jakob in the Isenthal. The Naturefriends Hostel Grindelwald is a member of naturfreundehaeuser.ch, a professional association for the further development of the Naturfriends Hostelling System in Switzerland.
Sustainability
The Naturefriends Hostel Grindewald is setting an example in the field of sustainability: Through the comprehensive renovation of the building envelope and the construction of a photovoltaic system, the house was able to increase the efficiency of the building envelope and the overall energy efficiency by 3 classes (GEAK building energy certificate of the cantons). In addition, sustainability is consciously pursued in the areas of cleaning and catering, for example. The catering offer is best seasonal and regional – apart from Grindelwald’s milk, meat and bread products only local and regional beers as well as Swiss wines find their way into the menu.
